After years of seeing different sales compensations
plans you become keenly aware of how to combine programs, discounts and rewards
to your best possible benefit. Most cash back programs yield 2% to 6% direct
cash back to you. Now by using a reward credit card to receive points for your purchase you have increased your discount on what you bought raising the yield
to about that 2% to 6%. This is getting two for one, but it is spread across two programs. Do it often enough and you become great at getting other things at a greater discount. Best times to shop are when you make a volume purchase for
example Christmas time, back to school and other holidays or special times.

$200 Worth Free Gas Every Year

This is simple and easy to do. A complete package of air, hotel and car rental is usually the best way to go. Other than working for a major
car rental company you will get you best rate from the last minute deals through
the car rental web page or travel site web page.

To illustrate on my last vacation the rental rate was over $400 for the week in Orlando through the airline site. I knew from experience that I could get a better rate for the week if I would work on the computer to find it. My first thought
was to get a free certificate from my hotel points program, which I did but since it was Spring Break season the car rental company would not honor that free certificate. No worry, I could use it later since I have a full year. Next I logged on to search for the best last minute deals at the major car rental companies and found one for $227 complete with taxes. Mission accomplished total spent with gas and fees $280 verse $450.

Buy The Sales Using Coupons

This is the best way to get the best price from a retail store. Buy the items that are on sale and use a coupon with that sale item. Can you say stock up time! Clipping coupons and keeping track of is painful and work. Get a part time job, start a business or turn your hobby or talent into cash by selling some of your work.

A part time job will give you the extra money to save if you are disciplined enough to put the money away and not spend it. The trade off for a part time job is the time away from your family, friends or fun things you like to do. You may even
like it enough to consider a change in vocation. Many retailers have seasonal openings as well as during the year.

Starting a business may take more time to provide you with funds to save. Unlike
a part time job a salary is not an immediate benefit. Be creative and think
about things you like to do and if others would pay you for your services and or products. Things that come to mind are painting, lawn care, show shoveling, window washing, car washing, photography/video taping, moving, DJ for parties/events, dog walking, and a host of many more. Also consider some of the successful network marketing companies as a possibility. A business will require start up money or an investment.

Turning a hobby or talent into cash is a little more tricky. Some people make jewelry, paint pictures, make ceramic items, or do other creative one of a kind
type thing. Tutoring can fall into this category as a service or a business or
part time job. Getting this off the ground may require an investment or start up cost. I hope I have given you some food for thought.

Why An Emergency Fund?

Because you will have a need for money and no one has you in there monthly budget.
We all have had friends and relatives claim to need a short term loan, but are
never quite able to pay you back in a timely fashion if ever. Thus you need your
own emergency funds that you never lend from because it is for your rent/mortgage
or bills.

You should have 3, 6 or even 8 months of expenses in a savings vehicle that is liquid you can use without paying penalty fees should you need the money. Now that you
have budgeted and know where to cut and sacrifice you should earmark part or all of
those funds to build your emergency fund. The fund will be used if you find yourself unemployed to last until you can find employment. Try not to disturb your 401K or IRA for emergencies and the fund will help you not sabotage your future.

Saving Prior Step

The very first step is to know what you are spending. Make a list of what you
spend bills, entertainment, health care, gas, newspaper, coffee, lunch, candy-gum,
tithes, offerings, charity and gifts for three to four weeks. You will see how
much you are spending and where you may be able to cut back (not tithes/offerings)
so you can save. Do this by pen and paper so it will easy to carry or spread sheet so it will accessible.

Identify any impulse spending you do and think about the why you are buying something not planned or needed. This may be the first items you need to cut in order to save. Make no mistake saving is a sacrifice, for example Saturday my wife wanted lunch immediately. We were only 15 minutes from home, not a great distance in miles or time. This was pure impulse since I had grocery shopped earlier that day. We had fresh new food waiting for us at home. Yes, we had lunch out, sometimes it is better
not to be logical and argue. My sacrifice that day of pocket spending money was worth the impulse and happiness.

Went to Hawaii 3 Times and Saved

Imagine this the first time I paid to go to Honolulu, air fare, hotel car and entertainment in 1984. It was great the air, the warmth, the pineapple and the wonderful aquarium all very expensive. So I needed to get smarter and to save money.

The next time I went to Hawaii 2003, the big island of Hawaii (simple too long to stay away)I flew, lodged and rented a car for FREE using points from a rewards program. Being in sales most of my life I maxed out the program so I could go and just had money for food and entertainment. What a great vacation and time.

The third time I went to the big island 2008 the rewards program eliminated the air fare but keep lodging and rental car, still a good deal. This is a hotel rewards program linked to a credit card I began in the days when I frequently travel for my sales position. I concentrated on one that was the most flexible for my needs.

Go To The Movies For Free

Yes, it is possible. First you must belong to a rewards program. I use Wheel of Fortune and my bank rewards program. Second, build up the points to receive your movie passes, then order them. Next get in a movie reward program like AMC or Regal. You can receive free tickets, free popcorn and soft drinks for frequency of visits. AMC has free popcorn on Wednesdays, small bag is fine due to fewer calories. All of this is managed online, remember maximize the rewards plan by accumulating the most points quickly.
